Learn to Confidently Move Between the Lab and the Operating Room
While our curriculum does not mandate research, being an academic medical center inclines the Department of Surgery towards developing game-changing researchers as well as world-class surgeons, particularly since dexterity in both disciplines ultimately benefits our patients. We also believe that all residents should aspire toward some original contribution to the literature during their time at Emory.
The department offers our general surgery residents protected research time for qualified projects, provided that a reliable mentor and well-considered objectives are involved. Opportunities include participating in one of our highly productive laboratories, assisting faculty with outcomes research, working in any one of our numerous clinical research programs, or pursuing advanced degrees.
