In honor of this anniversary, the Department of Surgery is excited to announce our Centennial Grand Rounds Series, in which guest speakers will explore the history of each division within the department.

In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Department of Surgery, we are excited to announce A Century of Surgical Excellence, which chronicles the 100-year history of the Emory University Department of Surgery and the people, milestones, and innovations that shaped it.

On February 19, 2026, John Galloway, MD, and William M. McKinnon, MD, were presented with the Emory Medical Alumni Board’s Award of Honor. The ceremony was held at Piedmont Driving Club, with remarks by Emory leadership and welcoming remarks delivered by Emory School of Medicine Dean Sandra Wong.

ATLANTA – 19-year-old Andrew Miles was born with aortic stenosis, a rare heart condition that causes the aortic valve to narrow, restricting blood flow to the heart and ultimately causing it to fail. A week after his high school graduation, Miles was urgently transferred to a hospital in Atlanta from Savannah. His heart was failing.
