Division of General and GI Surgery

Committed to Excellence in Patient Care, Education, and Research

With a history of refining and developing minimally invasive procedures beginning in the early 1990s, surgeons of the Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery of the Emory Department of Surgery provide laparoscopic, endoscopic, robotic, and open procedures for treating inflammatory bowel, colorectal, endocrine, gallbladder, pancreatic, esophageal and gastric diseases as well as intra-abdominal infections, hernias, and morbid obesity.

Clinical Services

Division faculty and their teams provide services at various Emory Healthcare locations, including Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital, Emory Decatur Hospital, Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Atlanta VA Healthcare System, and Grady Memorial Hospital.

General Surgery Residency

We have leveraged the strength of our highly dedicated faculty and the diversity of our training facilities to give residents broad exposure to routine, complex, and subspecialty surgical cases for a variety of patient populations. Residents are also encouraged to investigate the career focus of their choice.

Research

Faculty investigators focus on quality improvement, clinical outcomes research, refining and developing minimally invasive techniques, investigating methods of combating inflammatory bowel disease, improving treatment of Type 1 diabetes, and other related areas.

Our faculty actively support collaboration, treat the spectrum from common to rare to complex cases, provide services to all populations including the underserved, and work to train residents to improve lives in the present and future.
