Advanced Practice Provider (APP) fellowships in cardiothoracic surgery offer specialized training that is essential for excelling in this complex field of healthcare. Emory Healthcare's Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is one of the few institutions in the country with an established Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship program. The program provides in-depth didactic education and hands-on experience in cardiothoracic surgical procedures under the mentorship of seasoned surgeons and healthcare professionals. Through intensive clinical rotations and exposure to diverse cases, the cardiothoracic surgery APP fellow develops advanced skills in perioperative management, surgical assistance, and patient care specific to cardiothoracic conditions. Rotations among our three major hospital campuses (Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, and Emory University Hospital) provide exposure to a wide range of topics in cardiac and thoracic surgery. This diverse yet specialized training not only enhances clinical expertise but also prepares our fellows to contribute significantly to interdisciplinary teams, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
After earning my undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, I obtained my Master of Medical Science (MMSc-PA) degree at Emory University. During my clinical rotations, I spent a month in cardiac surgery at Emory University Hospital Midtown. After graduation, I completed the Emory Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship and am now working at Emory University Hospital Midtown as a cardiothoracic surgery physician assistant. As a graduate of the Emory Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship, I understand the rigorous nature of the program. I also have a firsthand appreciation for the professional connections and quality education that are established over the course of the program. As the program director, my goal is to foster growth and a commitment to excellence for new cardiothoracic surgery APPs, and to encourage continuing medical education as our field changes with time.
