Greetings from Lindsey Shirley Andrews

Welcome from the Program Director
Advanced Practice Provider (APP) fellowships in cardiothoracic surgery offer specialized training that is essential for excelling in this complex field of healthcare. Emory Healthcare's Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is one of the few institutions in the country with an established Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship program. The program provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, under the mentorship of seasoned surgeons and healthcare professionals. Through intensive clinical rotations and exposure to diverse cases, the cardiothoracic surgery APP fellow develops advanced skills in perioperative management, surgical assistance, and patient care specific to cardiothoracic conditions. This specialized training not only enhances your clinical expertise but also prepares you to contribute significantly to interdisciplinary teams, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
Emory is the only academic health center in Georgia, which provides increased access to research opportunities, quality improvement projects, and career advancement opportunities. As an APP who has both trained and worked at Emory, I can personally attest to the significant benefits this institution offers. After earning my undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Emory University's - Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. During the MSN portion of my training, I had the opportunity to complete a clinical rotation with the cardiothoracic surgery team at Emory University Hospital, Midtown, where I started my career as a nurse practitioner. My experiences with Emory Cardiothoracic Surgery have led to a fulfilling career as a nurse practitioner and many academic achievements, including numerous publications and presenting at academic conferences.
After dedicating a significant amount of time to my training and academic pursuits, my passion for teaching other APPs and fostering growth in our field was reinforced. My focus is enhancing the educational experience, promoting professional development, and expanding the scope of practice for APPs in cardiothoracic surgery. Seeing individuals thrive and grow within the program brings me immense satisfaction, knowing that we are collectively advancing healthcare and nurturing future leaders in our field.
As the Program Director, I want to express my sincere appreciation to all potential applicants who are interested in the Emory Cardiothoracic Surgery APP Fellowship. I invite you to explore our program further and discover how we can support your journey towards becoming a skilled and compassionate cardiothoracic surgery APP.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Shirley Andrews, MSN, AGACNP-BC
