Overview
Program Goals
- To provide high-quality and patient-centered surgical care to all populations in Atlanta, rural Georgia, and the world.
- To effectively manage the challenges of those with limited access to surgical services through a combination of formal instruction, clinical exposure, and dedicated research on disease processes.
- To create academic leaders and policy experts in surgery who will continue to work towards advancing the field from within academia, governmental, and nongovernmental organizations to provide care for all communities.
- To combine the interest, experience, and instruction in urban, rural, and global care to create a unified field--and, thus, community--devoted to the surgical management of all populations who face challenges both domestically and internationally.
- To contribute to the pedagogy of general surgery residency—that an understanding of econonomic circumstances and disease burden might be integrated into all general surgery residency curricula.
