Curriculum
OMFS grand rounds conferences are held every Monday morning: included are guest lectures, monthly M&M conferences, combined monthly orthodontic surgery conferences with the Georgia School of Orthodontics, OMFS journal club and the oral and maxillofacial surgery didactic curriculum using OMS Score.
Senior level residents conduct weekly evening Wednesday teaching sessions for the lower-level residents on building skill sets in OMFS.
Saturday Teaching Rounds: first three months.
Sponsorship for Conferences: Residents are often sponsored to attend the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) meeting and other select conferences, promoting their professional development.
Four-Year Track
Year 1: Twelve months OMFS.
Year 2: Off service rotations including two months on medicine, four months on surgery and five months on anesthesia.
Year 3: One-month rotations on ENT, Plastic surgery, oculoplastic and a one-month elective. Eight months of OMFS.
Year 4: Twelve months on OMFS service, Chief.
Six-Year Track
Year 1: Seven months OMFS service including one month off service to study for USMLE Step 1, five months medical school entering in the Applications Phase 2 of the SOM curriculum.
Year 2: Continued Application Phase, USMLE Step 2, Discovery Phase 3.
Year 3: Continued Application Phase, Translation Phase 4 two months, five months on OMFS service as PGY 2.
Year 4: General Surgery PGY 1 including rotations on Plastic surgery, ENT and anesthesia.
Year 5: OMFS service, peds anesthesia, oculoplastic, elective month.
Year 6: OMFS service, Chief.
