Our Commitment

The Emory Department of Surgery General Surgery Residency Program recognizes the impact that individual, cultural, societal, and systemic factors can have on patient care, education, program culture, and wellbeing. As a residency program, we are committed to continuous assessment of program practices, high impact education and training practices that acknowledge the varying perspectives and lived experiences of our trainees, and implementing policies that foster a just environment that places patient safety and equity at the forefront.
We pledge to:
- Recruit and retain trainees from various backgrounds
- Encourage quality improvement measures and advance initiatives that focus on structurally vulnerable populations
- Implement a curriculum that encourages safe and open discussion, listening, and learning towards action
