John Aarsvold
Overview
Dr. Aarsvold has appointments in the Department of Radiology at Emory University and the Nuclear Medicine Service at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). He has held these positions since 1998 when he transitioned to them from appointments in the Departments of Mathematics and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. Dr. Aarsvold has been involved in nuclear medicine physics and engineering research for over 20 years. Most of his work has focused on the development and use of application-specific imaging systems comprising small field-of-view gamma cameras. Through development of novel laboratory and clinical systems and protocols, he has sought to impact the management of patients with breast cancer, melanoma, lung cancer, colon cancer, electrical injury, Parkinsons disease, and schizophrenia. Dr. Aarsvold co-edited Emission Tomography: The Fundamentals of PET and SPECT, an award-winning book for graduate students and other investigators researching the physics and engineering of emission tomography. In 2006, he served as the MIC Program Chair of the annual IEEE NSS/MIC (Nuclear Science Symposium/Medical Imaging Conference).
