Emory Radiology Interest Group

About

Welcome to the Emory Radiology Interest Group (ERIG)! Our mission is to expose medical students to the field of radiology and to provide opportunities within the field, whether it is in neuroradiology, breast imaging, or one of the countless other subspecialties. We strive to serve as a liaison between medical students and faculty, connecting them with research opportunities and faculty mentors through our shadowing program. We hope our annual seminars and faculty panels will augment their medical education and help them to make informed choices about their future careers in radiology. For students applying to radiology residency, we provide information about the application process and help prepare for residency interviews.

We welcome everyone, from those who are curious about radiology to those committed to pursuing radiology for residency, and hope you take advantage of all we have to offer, courtesy of our great faculty and coordinators.

Events

Introduction to Radiology: September 4th, 6:00-7:30pm, SOM A153

This event is our introductory event to the field of radiology, perfect for first-, second-, and third year medical students. We invite resident and attending physicians to speak on panels to discuss their day-to-day responsibilities and personal experiences as radiologists. Students also have an opportunity to ask any questions regarding their journeys into radiology and interests in the field. There may be an opportunity to tour a reading room.

*requires RSVP

Activities Fair for First Year Medical Students: August 19, 2019; SOM Commons

Please stop by our Radiology Interest booth at the Activities Fair! We will have sign-in sheets to be part of our ERIG listserv as well as Department of Radiology “swag”. Stop by to see some great examples of interesting radiology cases!

ERIG Mock Interviews: Friday September 6th, Time TBD
This event is aimed to prepare M4s with radiology residency interviews. The mock interview will be conducted with various Emory faculty in order to hone interview skills for applicants’ residency interviews.

36thAnnual Heinz S. Weens Memorial Lecture: TBD 2020 (*requires RSVP)

The Weens Lecture is held in memory of Dr. Heinz S. Weens (1912-1999) who was the first chairman of the Emory Department of Radiology and a pioneer in the field of radiology. He helped to perform the first diagnostic cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography in 1944. This lecture is a celebration of the rich history of our department. We invite speakers from various fields, ranging from the arts to music and media, to demonstrate the interconnectedness and power of these fields as relating to medicine.

Radiology Medical Student Symposium: Spring 2020, TBD (*requires RSVP)

This Symposium is a perfect opportunity for all students to learn more about radiology and meet radiology faculty. This half-a-day meeting includes Q&A session with the program director, speed mentoring with the faculty, and panel on current topics relevant to the field of radiology.

Radiology Research Funding: Available all year (dependent on conference timings)

Students who have first author poster or oral presentations at radiology conferences can request funding for travel and registration expenses from the department.
