  • Diversity...The Why
  1. Culture. We have the ample resources that come with having a big program but focus on maintaining the feel of a small, close-knit family.
  2. Our case mix and case volume are, we believe, unmatched. To the best of our knowledge, very few radiology programs offer the high volume and exposure to such a diverse caseload from multiple tertiary care hospitals, a large level-I trauma center/community hospital, a stand-alone children’s hospital on campus, and several community imaging centers. Our residents graduate with the confidence and experience to work in practically any environment – either academic or private practice.
  3. Education is highly valued here. Our residents are encouraged and supported to engage in scholarly activities. We also offer a unique Adopt-A-Resident program in which a resident receives up to $10,000 for an academic project of their own design.
  4. Excellent faculty across all subspecialties. We have subspecialty-trained faculty from all across the country; many are nationally renowned for their contributions to the ABR, ACR, AIRP, and AUR, as well as to radiology initiatives including the development of BI-RADS.
  5. We are pro-resident! Residents are involved in committees overseeing curriculum development, program oversight, and departmental policies. We have professional development funds and currently support our residents to attend national radiology meetings and AIRP.
  6. Fellowships at Emory Radiology. We train a large number of fellows, which is a testament to the strength of each division. Our fellows are a great resource for resident education and starting this year, will host a weekly conference dedicated to teaching residents.
  7. After residency. Our residents usually do extremely well with fellowships and finding great jobs. Many of them stay with us, but we’ve also enjoyed great success sending residents to outstanding departments like Duke, Johns Hopkins, MGH, Stanford, and UCSF. In recent years, we usually have about two residents a year go into academia.
  8. A holistic approach. We are pro-family and believe in work-life balance. We have excellent and affordable childcare minutes away from Emory's main campus. We support multiple special experiences, including a faculty mentor program, Business of Medicine/Business of Radiology curricula, Global Health initiatives, and resident retreats.
  9. Residents as teachers and researchers. We have had several residents receive RSNA research grants, serve on national committees, and present at national and international meetings. We have a Residency Research Track which provides opportunities for selected residents to do research throughout their training, but we also ensure that residents outside of this track are also supported. Our Clinical Education Track prepares residents for careers in academia and there are plenty of other opportunities for residents to gain teaching experience.
  10. Educational curriculum. Our educational curriculum consists of teaching sessions (e.g., didactics, case conferences, etc.), rotations, and call. We work hard to make sure that this experience is balanced over the years and is of the highest quality.
  11. Living in Atlanta. Atlanta is a thriving metropolis far more affordable than older cities on the East and West coasts. We have great food, beautiful parks, professional and recreational sports teams, inspiring museums, and exciting performing arts venues of all sizes. We're home to CNN and Turner Broadcasting, the CDC, UPS, and The Coca-Cola Company, to name a few of our hometown heroes. The mountains of North Georgia are only an hour away, while the North Carolina and South Carolina mountains are about three hours away. Savannah and the Atlantic coast are only four hours away, and the Gulf coast is not much farther.
