Faculty Mentorship Program
This one-to-one mentoring program pairs new junior faculty members with a more senior faculty member who provides guidance on navigating a professional career in Emory Radiology. Mentors provide insight about (1) performing excellent clinical work while also enhancing skills in education and/or research; (2) understanding and meeting the guidelines for promotion and other metrics for a successful academic career; and (3) balancing the demands of work and home life. The program also affords the more senior faculty members the opportunity to grow professionally through the two-year mentorship experience.
Department-wide Professional Development Opportunities
Departmental Retreats
Once or twice per year, the department hosts a facilitated retreat for its faculty and staff leaders.
The daylong retreat includes both a strategic planning component and a skill-building module
aligned with departmental priorities at the time of the retreat. The retreats also feature at least
one institutional leader and/or leading expert as a guest facilitator.
Radiology Leadership Academy
The Radiology Leadership Academy (RLA) develops highly engaged leaders invested in improving the department, Emory, and the community. Established in 2009, RLA mixes twelve high achievers from across the department—clinical and research faculty, clinical and administrative staff, and administrators—for year-long leadership skills development and knowledge building. The class meets monthly to study leadership tools and theories and to examine departmental issues. Class members also work in teams on Business of Radiology projects, designing innovative solutions for current problems or opportunities. Departmental innovations arising from these projects include the radiation dose reduction program and the expanded departmental faculty and staff awards program.
Service Excellence Institute
The Service Excellence Institute (SEI) cross-trains faculty, trainees, and staff at all levels in the tenets and practices of excellent customer service. A 2010 RLA team proposed the SEI to achieve the department’s strategic goal of building essential customer service skills across faculty and staff. Retooled in 2015, SEI emphasizes the fundamentals of teamwork for service delivery and complements Emory Healthcare’s new patient-care initiatives.
