Clinical Distinctions Committee
While not in lieu of academic promotion, this program recognizes Emory faculty for outstanding clinical service in categories including Quality of Care and Patient Satisfaction, Innovation and Citizenship.
The clinical distinctions committee, led by Drs. Judson Miller and Stephanie Jernigan, is made up of dedicated faculty in the department of pediatrics. This group is tasked with identifying and nominating members of our department who exemplify the best in the above categories with designations of Senior, Distinguished and Eminent physician based on years of service. Once nominated, the committee will continue to assist potential candidates through the process and advocate for them at the school level committee with representation by Dr. Miller. Distinctions are conferred in September.
Appointments & Promotions Committee
The Department of Pediatrics’ Appointments and Promotions (AP) Committee assists faculty members in the department with their career advancement through the academic ranks. The committee is comprised of a diverse and thoughtful group of senior faculty, representing a variety of pediatrics specialties and areas of focus. Dr. Harold K. Simon, Marcus Professor and Vice Chair for Faculty Development serves as chair of the DOP AP Committee. The committee’s roles include:
- Conducting pre-reviews of documents submitted by potential candidates recommended by their Division Directors. The committee shares recommendations and feedback regarding moving forward in the promotion cycle and how to strengthen a proposal.
- Final packet reviews for approval and recommendations to the Chair before final proposals are submitted to the School of Medicine Faculty Committee on Appointments and Promotions (FCAP)
- Review of all senior faculty appointment proposals
