Dedicated Educator and Humanitarian Worker
Emory University School of Medicine's Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery established the Steven M. Roser Lectureship in 2025 in recognition of Dr. Roser's 21 years of dedication and service to Emory.
Dr. Roser is the Delos Hill Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, professor of surgery, and the residency program director for the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery at the Emory School of Medicine. He is also chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Roser joined the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine in 2004 as chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 2019, he stepped down as chief of the division and took the role of residency program director for Emory's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program, which has 21 residents enrolled in four-year and six-year OMS/MD training tracks. Dr. Roser is currently the chair of the Department of Surgery Global Surgery Committee at Emory, a lead for the Emory Global Perioperative Health Alliance, and on the advisory board for the School of Medicine’s Office of Global Health and Equity.
In addition to his interest in education, Dr. Roser has organized international surgical outreach programs performing surgical repair of cleft lip/palate deformities primarily in Latin America. He is currently the chair of the Committee on Global Surgery for the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, on the Permanent Council for the G4 Alliance and is on the Education Subcommittee for ACS/H.O.P.E.
Among his many achievements, Dr. Roser has been awarded the Humanitarian Award from the Fraternal Order of Police, Surgeon’s Lodge #3, the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Donald Osbon Educator of the Year Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Distinguished Service Award for his work in global surgery from the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and much more.
