As part of the 100th anniversary of the Department of Surgery, we seek to honor the life and work of our dear friend and colleague, Dr. William C. Wood. Join us as we remember Dr. Wood and the legacy he imparted on Emory Surgery.

ATLANTA – 19-year-old Andrew Miles was born with aortic stenosis, a rare heart condition that causes the aortic valve to narrow, restricting blood flow to the heart and ultimately causing it to fail. A week after his high school graduation, Miles was urgently transferred to a hospital in Atlanta from Savannah. His heart was failing.

Emory Healthcare has completed the first patient case in the ARISE III clinical trial to treat a life-threatening heart condition, called acute type A aortic dissection, using an investigational ascending stent graft.
