(Atlanta) – Emory Eye Center will host the 34th annual Southeastern Vitreoretinal Seminar (SEVR) on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, 2020, at JW Marriot Buckhead in Atlanta.
The conference will open Friday morning with the Paul Sternberg, Jr., lecture, presented by Amani Fawzi, MD, of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She is the Cyrus Tang and Lee Jampol Professor of Ophthalmology on faculty with the Feinberg School of Medicine in Miami.
Her research focuses on translational approaches to age-related macular degeneration and ischemic retinal diseases with a special focus on functional retinal imaging and image-guided interventions.
Another invited featured guest lecturer for SEVR 2020 will include Russell W. Read, MD, PhD, of Callahan Eye Hospital. Read is the Max and Lorayne Cooper Professor for Ophthalmology and residency training director of the Uveitis/Ocular Inflammatory Disease service in the Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences department.
SEVR 2020 is directed by Steven Yeh, MD, and Ghazala A. Datoo O’Keefe, MD, within the Retina and Uveitis services at the Emory Eye Center.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Fawzi from Northwestern University as our Paul Sternberg Jr., Lecturer,” Yeh says. “She is a true leader in advanced ophthalmic imaging, which impacts all of our patients with retinal disease. Our featured guest speaker, Dr. Read, will also help us understand the latest innovations and therapeutics that affect patients with uveitis.”
The remainder of the seminar will feature case presentations along with clinical updates and point-counterpoint discussions related to vitreoretinal surgery, medical retinal diseases, uveitis, and related topics. Emory Eye Center faculty and invited guest faculty will discuss some of their most interesting cases; attendees are invited to bring their own for sharing.
“Dr. O’Keefe and I along with the Emory Retina and Uveitis faculty are excited about bringing together an interactive program for our guests with timely discussion related to retinal vascular disease, retinal degeneration, tumors, and uveitis,” Yeh says.
JW Marriot Buckhead is located at 3300 Lenox Road, NE, in Atlanta.
