Comprehensive collaboration
The Comprehensive Ophthalmology Section at the Emory Eye Center is the entry point for ophthalmic medical care and treatment for a wide swath of the population in Georgia. As such, it plays an active and integral role in identifying the need for more specialized medical and/or surgical first-line treatments for a variety of disorders, including macular degeneration, uveitis, cataracts, dry eye, conjunctivitis, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and general retinal problems.
Ophthalmologists in this section assist with educating residents at the Grady Hospital and VA Eye Clinics. Their training emphasizes the importance of triaging incoming eye complaints, knowing that an accurate and rapid referral to other subspecialties is critical to their mission as comprehensive clinicians. They are also trained in the Emory Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) to perform routine and complex cataract surgery.
