Emily Graubart MD
Overview
Emily B. Graubart, MD joined the comprehensive section of the Emory Eye Center in 2008. She currently serves as the Director of Comprehensive Ophthalmology for the Department of Ophthalmology.. She is also the Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Ophthalmology and the Ophthalmology Clerkship Director for Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Graubart received her BA in Psychology from Northwestern University Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences in 2000. She then went to Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and graduated from the Honors Program in Medical Education in 2004. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at Emory University School of Medicine in 2008.
Dr. Graubarts clinical interests include cataract and laser surgery, ophthalmic manifestations of systemic disease (including diabetic retinopathy), and the medical and microinvasive surgical management of glaucoma. She has a special academic interest in mentoring and training medical students and residents. Her research interests include examining the best approach to using digital tools to teach medical students basic ophthalmology and ophthalmoscopy. Dr. Graubart recently created an online interactive cataract surgery course for medical student education.
Dr. Graubart provides patient care at the Emory Eye Center and Grady Memorial Hospital.
National Recognition
Dr. Graubart is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO). She is also an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery(ASCRS), the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology(AUPO), the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology, and the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
Dr. Graubart served as President of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology Medical Student Educators Council from 2020-2021. She also previously served as co-chair of the AUPOs Educational Resource Development and Research Committee for Medical Student Education. During her 7 years with the AUPO Medical Student Educators Council, she helped create a national ophthalmology curriculum for medical students. She has previously served as councilor for the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
She has published articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed publications and has presented her educational research and surgical techniques at numerous national scientific meetings.

Focus
- My current research focus involves examining the best approach to teach ophthalmoscopy to medical students. As co-investigator of Teaching Ophthalmoscopy to Medical Students, I am trying to determine the optimal method for teaching ophthalmoscopy to medical students early in their training.
