The Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases at Emory University serves as a major tertiary referral center for patients extending from Atlanta throughout much of the Southeast. Our Division consists of neurology specialists Board-certified in Vascular Neurology who provide expert care in the evaluation and treatment of patients with all kinds of cerebrovascular diseases, including the following:
- Acute ischemic stroke
- Intracerebral hemorrhage
- Subarachnoid hemorrhage
- TIA ("mini-stroke”)
- Cerebral venous thrombosis
- Dissection
- Carotid and intracranial stenosis
- Moyamoya
- Stroke Rehabilitation
Research
Our team is actively involved in clinical and lab research studies with areas of interest including the following:
- Novel therapies for acute ischemic stroke
- Risk factor modification for the prevention of stroke
- Dietary factors and their role in stroke
- Defining optimal treatment of intracranial arterial stenosis.
- Stroke Rehabilitation (Transcranial magnetic stimulation, stem cells, robotic therapy)

Fellowship
The division of vascular neurology maintains 4 one year ACGME fellowship positions. There are six academically productive vascular neurology faculty members who have a broad range of subspecialization. Vascular Neurology faculty provide expert care in the management of patients with acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral aneurysms, cerebral venous thrombosis, extracranial carotid and vertebral stenosis, and intracranial arterial stenosis. The program offers exposure to therapeutic interventions (angioplasty, stenting, intra-arterial thrombolysis, thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling) to patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and cerebrovascular diseases.
