Goals
To educate the public about Parkinson's disease (PD) and Parkinson's disease research.
Activities
Udall Center personnel organizes or participates in various local Parkinson’s disease activities. Many of these events are in collaboration with patient support groups, such as those organized by the American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) and the Parkinson’s Foundation. The Center's outreach activities are coordinated via our Community Outreach Board, which consists of a group of dedicated patients and care partners, Movement Disorders Clinic personnel, the Udall Center Director and administrator. The patients with Parkinson's disease and family members on the Board offer ideas from the Parkinson’s disease community and work together with Center personnel to implement the outreach activities. One such event is our annual Community Conversations with Emory Parkinson's Disease Researchers.
Community Conversations with Emory Parkinson's Disease Researchers
About the Meeting
Each year, patients and family members/caregivers are invited to discuss Parkinson's disease research with Emory scientists at our “Community Conversations” event. Discussions are lively, driven by questions from the audience. The main goal of the event is to inform the local Parkinson’s disease community about current research findings and to give them insight into future research directions. The event is held at the Emory Brain Health Center in Atlanta, GA. It begins with small group discussions with local Parkinson’s disease researchers and concludes with a lunchtime session featuring two keynote speakers.
This program is supported by a grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation, support from the American Parkinson Disease Association, and NIH/NINDS (P50 NS123103 (Udall Center grant)).
