The Emory University Stroke Center serves as a major primary care and tertiary referral center for patients with Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases from Atlanta, throughout Georgia, and much of the Southeast. The Center consists of a multi-specialty group of physicians who provide expert care in the management of patients with acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral venous thrombosis, carotid stenosis and intracranial arterial stenosis.
The Stroke Center offers novel therapeutic interventions such as balloon angioplasty and stenting, intra-arterial thrombolysis, aneurysm coiling, and multi-modality vascular malformation (AVM) treatment for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. The Center is also involved in several research projects. Interests include defining optimal treatment of intracranial arterial stenosis, stenting for carotid artery stenosis, bypass surgery for carotid occlusion, novel therapies for acute ischemic stroke, risk factor modification for the prevention of stroke and the genetic basis of stroke.
