In Emory University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, community and belonging are not just ideals - they are the foundation of who we are and the work we do. We believe that excellence and eminence in clinical care, education and research are only possible when every member of our community and those we serve feel valued, supported and empowered. Our commitment to community and belonging is brought to life through dedicated committees and workgroups, each working to strengthen connection, foster inclusion and promote well‑being across our department and in the community.
- Dialogue, Integrity, Service and Community (DISC) Committee - cultivates a welcoming and vibrant environment, where every individual feels valued and empowered to thrive and engage in service in their communities (for faculty, learners and staff)
- Resilience, Education and Access for Community Health (REACH) Committee - strives to disseminate evidence-based mental health information to communities in a way that reduces stigma and increases mental health literacy (for faculty)
- Work-Life Balance (WLB) Committee - promotes a culture in which faculty can thrive personally and professionally by supporting the balance among work responsibilities, caregiving roles and individual fulfillment (for faculty)
- Wellness Committee – fosters a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes physical, emotional and social wellness (for faculty, learners and staff)
- Community Engagement Residency Committee – promotes inclusive, meaningful connections within the Emory Psychiatry Residency, Emory University community and the greater Atlanta area to create long lasting and positive relationships (for residents)
- Atlanta Behavioral Health Advocates (ABHA) Workgroup – engages in advocacy for the behavioral health needs of all individuals (for faculty, learners and staff)
- Arts and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Workgroup - harnesses the power of creative expression to deepen connection, reflection, understanding and healing (for faculty, learners and staff)
Together, these committees and workgroups form the backbone of our department’s mission to cultivate a community where belonging is felt, wellness is supported and every voice matters. Whether through education, service, scholarship, advocacy or creativity, we are dedicated to building a department where all members of our community can thrive.
