Emory Medicine from several departments, including Emergency Medicine, had an exceptional showing at the National Medical Association (NMA) annual convention and scientific assembly in Honolulu, Hawaii July 27-31, 2019.
For those who may not know, NMA is “the collective voice of African American physicians and the leading force for parity and justice in medicine and the elimination of disparities in health”. It is the largest and oldest national organization representing African American physicians and their patients in the United States.
The NMA scientific assembly had a robust meeting; the full program can be found here. There were plenary sessions that addressed the need to increase the number of Black males in medicine. There was also a symposium addressing 400 years of Violence in the Black Community as well as sessions on physician sustainability, burnout, and resiliency.
Emory faculty and residents in attendance and/or had presentations were from the Departments of:
- Anesthesiology
- Emergency Medicine
- Family Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Obstetrics/Gynecology
- Pediatrics
- Radiology
- Surgery
