Emory Department of Radiation Oncology faculty were among those recognized for their achievements during Emory University School of Medicine's Faculty Recognitions Week, Oct. 28 - Nov. 1, 2024.

Every year, the Emory University School of Medicine holds Faculty Recognitions Week, celebrating faculty accomplishments and excellence in patient care, research, education and innovation. The 2024 list of award recipients and accolades was released the week of Oct. 28.
Several faculty members in the Department of Radiation Oncology were recognized for their achievements, including:
Richard Castillo, PhD, DABR, received the Excellence in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award. This award was established to honor faculty who have made significant achievements in ensuring that the climate of the Emory School of Medicine is characterized by inclusivity and organizational equity through leveraging the varied attributes of diversity in our community.
Mohammad Khan, MD, PhD, MS, DABR, received the Innovation for Impact Award, which recognizes faculty inventors, innovators, and entrepreneurs whose contributions have resulted in a significant impact on human health or have the potential to be paradigm-shifting.
Xiaofeng Yang, PhD, DABR, received the Excellence in Research: Trailblazer Award, which recognizes faculty who engage in outstanding and cutting-edge research that advances our knowledge base in meaningful ways.
The Clinical Distinctions designation program is designed to recognize faculty who have devoted their time and careers to providing excellence in clinical care. Among the designated faculty this year, Shannon Kahn, MD, and Joseph Shelton, MD, received the Eminent Physician Distinction and Ashish Patel, MD, MBA, received the Distinguished Physician Distinction.
Lei “Richard” Qiu, PhD, DABR, has been named a Hidden Gem. Hidden Gems are individuals nominated by their departments in recognition of their outstanding, but often unnoticed or unrecognized, contributions to Emory or beyond.
“The myriad ways our radiation oncology faculty contribute to the important mission of our organization merit kudos,” says Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil, Lawrence Davis professor and chair of radiation oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. “I am delighted to see these recognitions.”
