(ATLANTA) Once again, Emory Eye Center physicians will help educate other providers at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) virtual annual conference this month.
“It is great to see how many of our faculty are involved with AAO courses and activities sharing their expertise with other ophthalmologists,” says Allen Beck, MD, director of Emory Eye Center. “I want to thank all of our faculty who have taken the time to participate in AAO this year.”
Emory Eye Center faculty will be involved with 31 teaching opportunities that will include presenting lectures, sharing scientific posters, introducing and participating in panel discussions, and facilitating informal discussions on hot topics.
"With Dr. Maria Aaron's AAO Program Secretary leadership and Dr. Beck's leadership from an Emory faculty perspective, some of these topics include: COVID-19 and ocular oncology; phase 3 results of gene therapy for Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy; health disparities in ophthalmic care; Global Ophthalmology; uveitis management; metastatic melanoma with checkpoint inhibition; surgical pearls for anterior and posterior segment disease, and many other exciting areas of ophthalmology," says Steven Yeh, MD, uveitis specialist and member of the AAO Uveitis Knowledge Base Panel.

“While so much has changed in 2020, we are excited to offer many of the same educational and networking opportunities that you’ve come to expect at the Annual Meeting,” says Maria Aaron, MD, Emory Eye Center ophthalmologist and secretary of AAO Annual Meeting.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all sessions will be held virtually from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST Friday-Sunday. Other sessions will be available for users to view via AAO’s on-demand service.
“In the virtual meeting platform, you’ll have access to over 100 hours of live broadcast including all 8 Subspecialty Days, the AAOE practice management program, Academy Cafés, Ask the Experts, poster discussions, general sessions and so much more.
