Overview
Susan C. Modesitt, MD, FACOG, FACS, is the Chair of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Leach Hendee endowed professor in Gynecologic Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. Prior to being recruited and joining the Emory faculty in 2022 as the Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology and the Gynecologic Team leader in the Winship Cancer Institute, she was an endowed professor and division director of gynecologic oncology at the University of Virginia from 2007-2022.
Dr. Modesitt is a fellow and a Governor of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). She has served in multiple national leadership roles and committees for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, ACS, ACOG, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Foundation for Womens Cancer and the NRG Oncology Group. Dr. Modesitt currently is the Editor-in-Chief of Gynecologic Oncology Reports and a Deputy Editor for Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Modesitt has published over 120 articles, 20 book chapters/invited articles, and has been recognized annually as a Top Doctor for Cancer since 2012 and an Exceptional Woman in Medicine since 2017.
Her research has focused on hereditary cancers, obesity related cancers, and clinical trials. Outside of work, Dr. Modesitt loves cycling trips, swimming, hiking, golf and, barring injury, does the occasional race.
