Basic research is directed toward greater knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of biology while translational research aims to take that fundamental knowledge and apply it to developing solutions to medical problems.
Faculty members conduct clinical, translational or basic research with medical students, residents, clinical fellows, predoctorants and postdoctorants.
Basic Research:
At the heart of our pursuit of knowledge, our basic research endeavors delve into the fundamental aspects of biology. Here, in the laboratories at the Woodruff Memorial Building (WMB), our dedicated lab scientists work tirelessly to unravel the mysteries of biology at the molecular and cellular levels. Through rigorous experimentation and investigation, we strive to deepen our understanding of reproductive health's intricate processes. From studying animal models to dissecting molecular pathways, our basic research forms the foundation for innovative medical solutions.
Translational Research:
Building on the insights gained through basic research, our translational researchers play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between laboratory discoveries and real-world medical applications. While our primary location is at the WMB, our commitment extends to Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory Decatur Hospital (EDH), and Emory University Hospital Midtown (EUHM), where we actively translate findings from animal studies into meaningful advancements for human health.
Our researchers excel in taking the knowledge gleaned from basic research and applying it to the complex landscape of human biology. Whether it's identifying potential therapies, developing diagnostic tools, or refining treatment strategies, our translational researchers work at the forefront of innovation to bring about positive outcomes for women's health.
Collaborative Excellence:
At Emory Gynecology and Obstetrics, collaboration is key. Our basic and translational researchers work hand-in-hand, fostering an environment where insights from the laboratory seamlessly transition into transformative solutions at the bedside. This collaborative synergy enhances the impact of our research, ensuring that scientific discoveries lead to tangible improvements in patient care.
