About Us
The General and Transplant Anesthesiology Division of Emory University provides all anesthesiology services at our major academic center, Emory University Hospital.
We cover a wide range of surgical cases including:
- Major vascular procedures (open and endovascular approach)
- Surgical oncology
- Colorectal
- Urology
- Oral/maxillofacial surgery
- Reconstructive plastic care
- General abdominal procedures
We are also a highly specialized facility caring for a large volume of advanced neurosurgical procedures including craniotomy for aneurysm, tumor, and AVM. Additionally, we have a large functional neurosurgical population where we partner with our neurosurgical colleagues to provide anesthetics for deep brain stimulation and electrode insertion for seizure management.
We care for emergency stroke patients in a high-volume stroke program, and also for patients undergoing revolutionary interventional radiology procedures. Additionally, we have a busy procedural GI and interventional pulmonary team, where we jointly work to care for patients. Finally, we host an expert liver transplant team, staffing one of the busiest and most successful liver transplant programs in the country.
Our team directs and staffs our busy Anesthesia Preoperative Clinic where we work to not only optimize patients for surgery but, drive care with our surgical partners in the ERAS program, plan care for patients to minimize opioid use, provide valuable perioperative education to improve patient satisfaction, and engage our patients to actively participate in their care.
Our large case volume and a wide variety of procedures allow us to sponsor both a Liver Transplant Fellowship and Neuroanesthesia Fellowship.
In addition, we recently added an Administrative Fellowship directed by our Quality Improvement and Data Team. During this fellowship, the fellow will gain experience in Healthcare Administration, while also attending business school at Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
We are working together to enhance the care of our patients, provide creative education resources to our learners, celebrate the achievements of our faculty and spend time together as a team.
