About our Clinical Divisions
The Emory University School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology is among the largest academic anesthesiology departments in the nation with multiple divisions covering Ambulatory Surgery, Surgical Subspecialties, Cardiothoracic, Obstetrics, Trauma, Liver Transplants, Regional Anesthesiology, Pediatrics, Critical Care Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Neurosurgical and Vascular Anesthesiology.
Anesthesiology is among the most varied, challenging, and rewarding of the medical specialties. Initially focused upon "giving anesthesia," anesthesiologists are active in all aspects of patient care. The practice of anesthesiology is, in reality, the practice of acute perioperative medicine with the understanding that anesthesiologists perform important procedures, convert monitoring data to patient care and recognize the subtle relationships between drug action and patient pathophysiology.
