About Us
The Emory University Department of Anesthesiology’s multidisciplinary Critical Care Medicine Division includes faculty from both anesthesiology and emergency medicine backgrounds. In partnership with the Emory Critical Care Center, which spans 354 ICU beds, the Division's faculty staff nine ICUs and the Emory eICU tele-critical care program. Sites include cardiothoracic, surgical, medical, blended, and community ICUs across multiple Emory Healthcare hospitals. Additionally, our faculty staff a surgical ICU and national tele-critical care program in partnership with the Atlanta VA Medical Center. We serve in numerous leadership capacities across the enterprise, including as Medical Directors of four ICUs and directors of related clinical and training programs.
Clinical care is provided for a diverse array of critically ill patients ranging from medical admissions to the application of advanced mechanical circulatory support modalities. Specific faculty assignments are determined based on interests and clinical needs.

Emory Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Program (ECMO)
The Emory Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Center is the premier ECMO program in the Southeastern United States. Our team uses a collaborative, multidisciplinary, team-based approach for the management of ECMO patients. In this model, Emory University Hospital intensivists direct a team of advanced practice providers, nurses, perfusionists, and respiratory therapists in the management of patients that have complex critical illness.
Under the medical direction of Drs. Christina Creel-Bulos and Sagar Dave, the ECMO Center provides comprehensive technology and protocols to support programs in respiratory failure, cardiac failure, and bridge to lung transplantation. The Center has the capacity to cannulate patients at remote locations and transfer them for ongoing active management.
