What is Service Learning?
Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. – National Service Learning Clearinghouse
What are the Goals of Service Learning in the Emory Doctor of Physical Therapy Program?
- To give Emory DPT students broad exposure to Service Learning and to give each student the opportunity to participate in Service Learning projects throughout their tenure in the DPT program.
- To focus on local projects in the Metro Atlanta/Georgia area in order to best serve those in need in our community.
- To provide at least one international service opportunity per year for students.
How can DPT students become involved in Service Learning?
Students have many opportunities to become involved with Service Learning throughout their tenure in the DPT program. Opportunities range from volunteering for an afternoon to a health fair to spending a week abroad on one of the international trips.
The Service Learning program continues to grow under the direction of DPT faculty member Dr. Sara Pullen and is sustained by the dedication, enthusiasm and skills of DPT students, faculty and alumni. Each year brings new exciting, fulfilling opportunities for service and volunteerism in both in our local community and abroad.
