Movement is critical for health and quality of life. Inadequate physical activity is a primary factor in the explosive growth of chronic, noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer. Increasing movement and decreasing sedentary behaviors are important methods to improve the overall health of individuals and society.
Vision
The Emory University Center for Physical Therapy and Movement Science pursues a future in which research, clinical practice and education come together in an iterative process to create new knowledge, facilitate precision interventions and support learners at all stages of their development within the field of Movement Science.
Mission
The Emory University Center for Physical Therapy and Movement Science mission is to catalyze the work of leading-edge researchers, expert clinicians and next-generation leaders. The Center creates synergy between practitioners and scientists in biomedical and engineering fields who focus on mechanistic understanding of function and dysfunction, biopsychosocial scientists exploring human interactions and clinical scientists engaged in interventional research and knowledge translation. In pursuing our aims, Emory will become the most visible and productive learning health system in Movement Science.
