Overview
In conjunction with Emory DPT’s academic curriculum, clinical education experiences provided under the guidance of experienced clinical instructors promote Emory DPT students to become caring leaders and innovators as they prepare for entry-level professional practice. The clinical education experiences provide students with a broad exposure to multiple aspects and settings of physical therapy practice and are designed to promote inclusive learning, integration of knowledge, application of evidence-based practices and competency of behaviors
Clinical Education Experiences - Schedule
Clinical education in the Emory DPT program consists of two components, totaling 36 weeks: three 2-week Integrated Clinical Education (ICE) experiences and three 10-week Terminal Clinical Education (TCE) experiences spaced throughout the curriculum. Beginning in the third semester, didactic work is integrated with clinical problem solving in consecutive courses with ICE experiences maximizing the opportunity to transfer knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and laboratory to the clinical setting. Each student will participate in three 2-week ICE experiences at the end of the 3rd, 4th and 5th semesters. In the 6th and 7th semesters, Emory DPT students are required to successfully complete three 10-week TCE experiences in each of the following settings: acute care hospital, inpatient or outpatient interdisciplinary rehabilitation, and community outpatient practice.
