He/Him/His
Justin graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University with a major in Biological Sciences and minor in Global Health. After serving as a Fulbright English teacher in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, he matriculated at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, where he was highly involved in a number of research, volunteer, public health, and advocacy activities. After his first year there, he performed a qualitative research project examining clinician perspectives and women’s experiences of perinatal depression in Mongolia, which culminated in a peer-reviewed publication. He was subsequently part of the Dean’s Research Scholars program through which he carried out a community-based photonarrative project exploring immigration as a social determinant of health in Santiago, Chile. He further analyzed this data for his thesis at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he earned a Master’s in Public Health for Development. While at Keck, he co-founded Homelessness Awareness Week, established a student organization called the Homeless Outreach Partnership for Education and Empowerment, and also served on the executive board of the student-run Southern California LGBT Health Conference. During his final year, Justin was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Professionally, he is interested in community psychiatry and integrated/collaborative care, psychotherapy, global mental health, LGBTQ+ mental health, and working with underserved populations.
