Absar was born in London, England and grew up in the deep South in the suburbs of Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he majored in molecular biology. After completing medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Absar matched into an internal medicine residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. During his residency, Absar has been involved in clinical research projects focused on adverse effects related to statin medications which has led to several poster presentations and a publication. Absar was initially torn between internal medicine and psychiatry and has decided to seek additional training in psychiatry where he plans to utilize his background in internal medicine within a predominately psychiatric practice in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Upon completing his internal medicine residency, Absar will begin psychiatry as a PGY-2 at Emory. Outside of residency, Absar enjoys consumer technology, video games, downhill skiing, bicycling, and time with family and friends.
