Zach graduated with a degree in philosophy from the College of Charleston and spent several years in New Mexico working in community health with syringe exchanges, street outreach and people living with HIV. Zach then attended medical school at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he was awarded the Gold-Headed Cane Award. During medical school, Zach continued to work with people who inject drugs, individuals living with HIV and people experiencing homelessness. Zach also published and presented on several topics related to LGBTQ health and policy.
