I am extremely proud of the selflessness faculty, residents, fellows, and all health care staff have shown on the front lines of COVID-19 and your bravery. I am exceptionally grateful for your continued excellence in patient care, clinical research, and education in the face of a crisis. Here is to expressing my gratitude and encouragement to faculty, trainees, and ALL health care workers worldwide battling this global pandemic. I had a lot of help writing this note from fellow Emory University participants, so please know this sentiment is coming to you from many many many people involved!

You care for us, and we care for you. I'm praying for you. Give yourself permission to not be "ON" all the time, and expect good, even though a lot is outside of your control. I know that there is quite a lot of chaos in the world. People are afraid. People are tired of being isolated and of wearing masks, tired of politics, and tired of not being able to enjoy many activities taken for granted before the pandemic. You have to deal with all of these frustrations along with your own, all while trying to protect yourself, your family, and complete strangers from a deadly disease. This is not easy.

I want you to know that you have a whole community behind you supporting you, cheering for you, and grateful for the hours that may seem, at times, thankless. The world is a better place because of you.

Thank you all for your tireless efforts towards treating patients during COVID-19. Your efforts have and will continue to make a difference in our community. You all are heroes, and we thank you for your repeated sacrifice of helping patients in need.

I wouldn't have ever thought that this would be the state of our world within the snap of a finger, but it is our reality. I cannot imagine our world without you and your colleagues. It’s surprising that it’s taken this pandemic for people to realize all that doctors do to try and keep people healthy and alive. You spend so much time and effort helping people, it’s really admirable. I am thinking about becoming a doctor one day because of people like you who do their best to save other people and make other people smile. Knowing that you are looking out for us makes me smile, so let me try to make you smile too.

Thank you so much for all of the effort and time you put into helping people. You could be doing anything else, but you choose to do this. Health professionals today are like fireflies. You are a pinprick of light (armed with knowledge) that ventures into the dark (unknown of COVID-19) to overcome what you find and lead (like a guiding light home) people back from the darkness. Even knowing the dangers, you still go. You do so much to keep us alive and healthy. Thank you.

Try to imagine a world without doctors like you. No one there to treat people when they are sick, no one willing to brave being near someone with a virus, no one knowing what to do when they are hurt. People would die, and people would be scared. Nobody wants to have no hope for salvation. Even trying to think about that world makes me shudder. Doctors are an integral part of the world that I live in. From the smallest paper cut to the biggest tumor, things seem less daunting when you know that you have doctors on your side. I think about it this way: there is a constant dark blanket that tries to cover the world with disease and misery, and doctors are like the modern knights in shining armor that put it back. I mean, think about it. Imagine your uniform turning to metal and your instruments to swords and shields. You are exactly like a noble knight in the fairytales. But you are better, because you are real.

I have been thinking about becoming a doctor, but it wasn’t until this global pandemic that I realized what it means to be a doctor. Being a doctor means putting yourself on the front lines of disease and putting yourself at risk to save others. Becoming a doctor means helping people.

This pandemic has shown me the power of doctors, of people like you. The world would be a darker, more miserable place without people like you to brighten it. I think of it as doctors carrying torches to light the way for everyone else down a dark hallway.

I’m so thankful for all that you do. 

Grace, I want to thank all of you guys for getting me through the last three years since my liver transplant. Gwen helped me before my transplant, and you are helping me now. Whenever I have a question, you get right back in touch with me. It means a lot. So thanks!!!😎 And kudos to the surgeons, nurses, and Dr. Ram Supramanian.😘

Many years before this pandemic, I was already singing the praises of Emory. I see several specialists there, and always have a smile on my face when I come. Clean, easy to find where I need to go, 98 percent very polite, helpful receptionists/sign-in people and awesome care. Thank you for your professionalism and high patient care. I am so proud of Emory and find it no surprise that you on the front lines have been such champions. Thank you and please stay healthy!!

Thank you to those clinical staff members who are in direct contact with our patients. Your dedicated service to our patients does not go unnoticed! Appreciation to ALL staff who show untiring dedication to every person entering our doors - from admissions to discharge (every employee’s role is important)! A special thank you to the screeners who work diligently at the entrances to enforce the visitor policy and COVID-19 screening process. We’re all in this together so TEAM work makes it all work! Hello, I hope this letter helps to brighten up your busy day at work. Your work is always appreciated, but mainly during this pandemic, when your work is very needed for even my dad to go to the store to buy groceries. Also, I am very grateful for your effort or work to stop this virus. You make many parents happy by helping their children get rid of the virus, and you are inspiring many people like me from your hard work during this time. When this virus is no more in the U.S, hopefully, you can spend more time with your family and be more relaxed without worrying about this virus. You make many parents happy by helping their children get rid of the virus, and you are inspiring many people like me from your hard work during this time. For every disciplined effort, there are multiple rewards. This includes all the work and effort you put in during this whole pandemic, like working 24/7, etc., which will be rewarded at the end. Also, please remember your effort is always appreciated and will be remembered even after hundreds of years. Anyway, I hope you didn’t have a stressful day today, and if you did, hopefully, I can help make the day better for you. Now that I think about it, I don't think anyone saw a worldwide pandemic happening this year. I guess most people don't have a 2020 vision. You are the reason many parents or children have a smile like the one on your face (hopefully the joke put a smile on your face) right now. I don’t think many would be able to fully thank you including me for what you have done to prevent the death of many and stop the spreading of the virus in many people's bodies. After the spreading of the virus goes down a bit, I believe you would be able to spend more time with your friends and family and have relaxing days. I hope you have a wonderful and happy day! 

Hey! :) I have done a few of these, and I like to start by saying a little bit about me so that this can feel more like I'm talking to you in real life and not just over the internet. Well, I have always wanted to go to Emory medical school. I will probably need to get tons of scholarships, but I'm working on that. I'm kind of scared about the amount of work and stress I will have, but I'm also kind of excited. I don't know how you went through that but thank you. Because of you, many people can sleep with a little less worry. Thank you for working during this pandemic and for working with at-risk patients. Not only with coronavirus patients but all of them. Thank you! :) 

Hey, do you know what "Anime" is? Well, if you don't know, it's a Japanese cartoon. I recently started to watch it, and it's so good. I'm lucky to watch it now because a lot of them are finished, so I don't have to wait weekly for episodes. Like this show called Naruto Shipudeen, I watched that in three weeks, and its 500 episodes. Crazy right. I only got to do that because I don't have a job, but you do. An important one. You are such a huge influence on so many people's lives that you don't even know it. I want to be a doctor, specifically a pediatrician when I grow up, so I have researched a lot of what health care workers do, and wow. You are so amazing. Thank you so much. :) 

Hey! How are you? My name is Lola, and I'm 14. I like to write a little story when I do these so that you can have more to read, so I'm going to tell you about my day. It's Election Day right now, so I didn't have school. I wanted to use this day for a catch-up day, but I procrastinated. I wish I could tell you that I woke up at 9 a.m. and did my homework, then my club work and lastly cleaned my room, but I didn't. But you know what, I still did like 2/3 of it, and I proud of that. And know who else I'm proud of? You! I know it's weird for a teenager to tell a grown adult that they are proud of them, but I really am. It's probably so tiring and stressful for you right now, so thank you so much.

Hi, My name is Lola. Well, I'm writing this while watching the election. This is crazy! I wish I could vote, but I'm not old enough. Did you vote? Thank you if you did. Also, thank you for being a person in the department of medicine. I know it's crazy over there with people thinking they have Coronavirus when they actually have the flu, and the risk you are taking for the better of other people. You have my respect. :)

Hi, my name is Lola, I'm in 9th grade right now, and I want to go to Emory medical school. My mom is a nurse, so I know how hard it is right now. I would like to thank you so much for all your help. 12-hour shifts are probably so tiring (Idk how I'm going to do that). I'm in this thing called 3de, which is where big companies give students some problems they have, and we have to try and solve them, and we just recently had a case challenge with Jackson Healthcare. I had to do a lot of research, and I learned a lot about physician burnout. I know that you are probably feeling overwhelmed with the pandemic, but I hope you know that you are making such a big impact with people like you taking care of the US then maybe I could go back to school. I hope this made your day a little. Chau (This is bye in Spanish, which I'm taking right now) (: 

The pandemic affected all of us in different ways, but it gave us all one thing in common: our gratitude for you, health care workers. For most of us in March, time stood still. Most of our lives completely changed; they slowed down. For you, however, the opposite was true. Your lives sped up with significantly more patients to care for and significantly more lives to save. Your incredible handling of that and the persistent service you give us is a gift that cannot be repaid. Your services truly make you more than a superhero and I am more than thankful for everything you do. Thank you for keeping us safe and thank you for spending your time on the battlefield. 

These past few months have certainly affected all of us. However, health care workers like yourself are doing so much to soften the blow. Working tireless hours on a battlefield is not only exhausting and also requires an extreme amount of bravery. You are doing such an amazing job at helping our society in the best way possible. I am writing this letter to let you know that we all appreciate you and we are so thankful for everything you are doing. It can truly not be described in words how much you are doing for us. In March, most of us were sent home. Students would participate in online school and many companies started working from home, however, you did not. You, unlike the rest of us, remained going to work every day, saving lives like you normally do. For that, every soul on the planet is eternally grateful. While the pandemic has required all of us to work together as part of a larger whole, nothing we do compares to the incredibly meaningful work you participate in every day. I understand the sacrifices and risks you take by simply doing your job, and continuing to do that is a task that can never be repaid with words. Thank you so much for all you have done to make our lives easier, and keep it up!

The past few months have obviously been slightly crazier than any of us expected. The pandemic has required everybody in our society to collaborate with each other as part of a greater whole, and the glue holding us together is none other than, you, a health care worker. Working tireless hours on a battlefield is not only exhausting but also requires extreme bravery. Acting as legitimate, real-life superheroes is no easy task, and you have done an amazing job. You’ve always been considered a hero. You hold the most precious moments of a mom and baby’s life in your hands multiple times a day. The hugs, smiles, and support you’ve provided over the years are priceless. 2020 has shown to be the most challenging year of your career. Your are sacrificing yourself and your family to care for moms and babies. This makes you a true HERO. Your physical hugs have been converted to virtual and emotional hugs. Your commitment to healthy mom and healthy baby has far surpassed anything imaginable. You are a tiny miracle to every woman you’ve encountered in 2020. Hey you, yes you in the scrubs! Oh wait, that's most of you...Well, this message is for anyone and everyone at CHOA doing the work that not everyone has the bravery to do. You guys are the ones that make a real difference in the lives of those children; I can try my best to write an encouraging letter but it's not even close to the level of care and attention you provide to these kids. Your dedication and passion for making the lives of these kids as enjoyable as possible while they're under your care is inspiring. As the younger brother of someone entering med school, I know you guys are under a lot of pressure and stress around the clock. Just know that every minute you spend doing your job is appreciated by every single person on this planet even if they don't admit it. 

To anyone reading, you are amazing! Not only are you amazing, but I can tell you are probably one of the most awesome people, ever! You don't believe me? Just ask anyone around you, they'll tell you the same exact thing and more. I know that might not mean a lot because you're reading this off of a screen, but trust me on this one, I'm being for real, you are great! It's probably easy to get bored at the hospital but remind yourself that it's just temporary and you'll be back home in your comfy bed doing whatever you want in no time (as long as you practice social distancing that is)! You and I are similar because neither of us has experienced anything like what's happening right now: a pandemic. Sounds scary, right? It's really nothing to worry about as long as you follow all the rules set by the healthcare workers around you. Other than those rules, you can have as much fun as you want, eat as much ice cream as you want, and watch as much TV as you want!

To the health care heroes that make a difference in everyone's lives, you guys are some of the most incredible and brave individuals in existence! I know you might've heard the same thing a million times, but it's because it really is true. Without you, the world would not be the same, which is especially true now. Every one of you deserves the kind words that people are sending your way no matter your role. If you're a custodian, thank you for supporting your colleagues and maintaining a clean environment for all the kids. If you're the front-desk secretary, thank you for being so patient and organized in a time of disorder and underfunded hospitals, we know you're doing your best. What I'm trying to say is the term "health care heroes" is a true statement; you guys are the real superheroes that save lives and inspire millions across the world every single day. Thank you.

Dear friend, I know you don't know me but I just wanted to try and brighten your day in some way so I'm going to write some "funny" jokes that I laughed at just a little. What did the baby corn say to the momma corn? Where's my popcorn? Get it? That might not have been the best one but I swear it would be funnier in-person. Unfortunately, you have to read this so you might've thought that was pretty lame...But I've got another one! How do you get a squirrel to like you? You act like a nut! Haha. Ok, hopefully that one was a little better but in case you didn't laugh at either one, I just wanted to tell you to keep your head up and try your best to keep a positive attitude. You might not be able to see your friends or do any of the things you really want to do and that sucks, truly. But I find that trying to see the best in every situation always keeps me going, so try to smile every day even if you don't want to and one day you'll see something that makes you happy and smile even bigger. 

To whoever is reading this, I'm not sure when you'll receive this message, but I want to say that I wish you the best and please stay strong for all the people that love you! No matter what you're going through, just know that bad times don't last forever. Keep a smile on your face and enjoy each day, even the small things. I know that during these times, keeping a positive attitude isn't the easiest, but I can assure you that if you focus on the current day, you're bound to find something you can appreciate and remember. I remember hating the doctor's office as a kid and I wouldn't want to stay there any longer than I was required but I realized that the people there truly cared for me and that applies to every hospital. Anyways, I hope you have a good rest of the day and know you're in good hands.

To anyone currently working at CHOA, thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to the bettering of others. Your work during these times is appreciated more than ever and you guys deserve the world! Not everyone has the willpower and heart that health care workers have. By showing up every day, ready to make the lives of children and their loved ones as comfortable as possible, every single one of you is making a difference even if you don't see it. I want to end this message by telling anyone reading this to stay strong and take a break once in a while because I know at least some of you need it!

Thank you all SO much for your efforts and dedication (especially during these difficult circumstances)! Your hard work and selflessness does not go unappreciated. I hope that you all can stay healthy and strong, we are all rooting for you! Thank you again!! <3

Thank you so much to all the health care workers and staff fighting every day to keep your community safe. Your hard work in the unfortunate times of COVID-19 does not go unnoticed. You're risking your own lives to save others and that itself is so admirable and brave. I know it's hard right now but keep fighting! You're an inspiration to everyone around you. Hello, hope you’re having an amazing morning, afternoon, or night!! Thank you for all your hard work and helping people stay healthy. What y’all do is very tough and it means so much that y’all want to take time out of your life and put into a stranger's health. Y’all deserve so much more than these notes, but that’s all we can do for now. This might sound like a typical thank you letter, but I promise we really appreciate it!! Thank you and keep up the great work!
