Research Hemostasis & Coagulation Core
Established more than 30 years ago by Dr. Jerrold Levy (Emory Professor Emeritus), the Department of Anesthesiology’s Translational Laboratory, now the Emory Research Hemostasis and Coagulation Core Lab, has been responsible for more than 100 peer-reviewed research publications.
The lab's main focus is on the mechanism and treatment of acquired coagulation disorders encountered in cardiac surgery, trauma, and other inflammatory processes.
Fania Szlam, MMSc is the lab’s manager and brings more than 4 decades of expertise in blood analysis to the lab’s mission. Dr. Roman Sniecinski assumed the directorship of the lab in 2013.
Important lab capabilities include:
- Calibrated automated thrombography (CAT)
- Viscoelastic testing via multiple platforms
- Platelet aggregometry
- Factor level measurement
- Advanced ELISA testing
