The Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Emory University is based at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Each year there are 4 ACGME approved Emory Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship positions available.The goal of our program is to produce pediatric perioperative anesthesiology consultants with expertise in all areas of pediatric anesthesiology, including:
- Critical care medicine
- Acute and chronic pain management
- Advanced life support
Faculty
All Emory Pediatric Anesthesiology faculty have Emory University academic appointments. There are 35 faculty members, all of whom participate in didactic and clinical teaching.
Fellowship Rotations
The Emory Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship program is designed to provide fellows the opportunity to develop skills in clinical care and judgment, teaching, administration, and research. The fellowship is ACGME approved, one year in duration and all clinical rotations are at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital.
The one-year pediatric fellowship includes the following clinical rotations (the program offers some flexibility in rotations for each fellow’s specific interests):
- Main operating rooms (6-7 months)
Exposure to the full spectrum of cases including general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, craniofacial, ophthalmology, urology, cardiac surgery and off-site CT, MRI, radiation therapy, interventional radiology and cath lab. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston is a Level 1 Trauma Center and has an active transplant program including heart, liver, kidney and lung transplants. - Pain service (2 months)
Fellows will gain experience in acute and chronic pediatric pain management with exposure to a large in-patient service and chronic pain clinics three days per week. This rotation also involves regional anesthesia experience in children of all ages. - Cardiac anesthesia (2-3 months)
Over 750 operations with cardiopulmonary bypass and approximately 200 non-bypass procedures are performed at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston each year. Fellows will gain experience with the most complex cardiac lesions (TOF, hypoplastic left heart) as well as with the more common cardiac lesions (VSD, ASD, PDA). - ICU (1 month)
Fellows will round with the PICU team and participate in the care of critically ill infants and children, gaining experience in advanced life support in a wide variety of patients. Exposure to a broad range of medical disease processes and surgical illnesses including multiple trauma is provided in the PICU rotation. - Elective/research (1 month)
Application Process
Emory's four Anesthesiology Pediatric Fellowship positions are assigned through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). All applications for the one-year fellowship are through ERAS. We accept applications from December until May 15 each year.

Research
Many research opportunities exist within the Emory Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship program. Fellows are actively engaged in quality projects throughout training.
