Residency for MDs

Graduates from our residency leave Emory with outstanding reputations from one of the most well-respected training programs in the country.

Gain Broad Experience in Routine, Complex, and Subspecialty Surgical Cases

The Emory Department of Urology strives to produce surgeons with the confidence and skills required to transition to autonomous practice safely upon graduation. Our program is composed of highly regarded faculty that are approachable, supportive, and view resident education as a primary focus of their endeavors. In addition to the vast clinical experience Emory Urology offers, residents have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to a wide range of productive and innovative clinical, basic, and translational research projects.

Program Director

The Emory urology residency program is led by Akanksha Mehta, MD, MS.

Where We Train

The scale of Emory's clinical presence in the Atlanta area means patients from every socioeconomic status, ethnic background, and stage of life come to us for care, allowing our residents to participate in a wide array of routine, complex, and subspecialty surgical cases.

Our residents work with a diverse patient population in a network that includes university-owned quaternary care facilities, a pediatric hospital, a county-owned hospital, and a veterans hospital, all of which are highly regarded referral centers for patients from throughout the country. Annual Resident Awards

To celebrate our residents' accomplishments, Emory Urology presents two awards at the annual graduation event:

The William Hollis Cooner Resident Award is presented to the resident who has best emulated the compassion and care for patients shown by William H. Cooner, one of the most widely acclaimed and honored urologists of the 20th century, and the Resident Academic Achievement Award recognizes residents for exceptional academic, research, and scholarly successes.
