Joel attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY before returning to his hometown of Tampa, FL. At the University of South Florida, he completed a BS in cell and molecular biology with a minor in philosophy before matriculating to the SELECT Program within the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. As a medical student, Joel has been involved in a number of community service efforts. He has been a medical volunteer at a shelter for homeless youth, has served as a leader in a student-run organization to hold educational and networking events with local schools and has facilitated meetings in drug and alcohol treatment centers. As a 4th year medical student, he was one of the pioneering members of a team that developed and facilitated process groups for 3rd year medical students. His interests within psychiatry include addiction, adolescence and psychotherapy. Joel’s other interests include film, literature and fantasy football.
