Deepika Koganti appointed associate program director of the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship
SEPTEMBER 2021
Deepika Koganti, MD, trauma surgeon, emergency/elective general surgeon, and surgical critical care intensivist based at Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory Decatur Hospital, has been named associate program director of the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship. In this position, Dr. Koganti will be involved in administering both the 12-month acute care surgery and the 12-month surgical critical care components of this two-year fellowship.
Dr. Koganti herself is a graduate of the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship and joined the faculty of the Emory Department of Surgery after completing the program.
Her current academic activities include partnering with Emory-Grady colleague Randi Smith, MD, MPH, on two grants, one evaluating different trauma and acute care surgery service models, and the other involving a diverse team of clinicians, academics, and community leaders adapting the Stop the Bleed trauma intervention for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
"We are so pleased to announce this appointment," says Jason Sciarretta, MD, program director of the acute care surgery year of the fellowship. "Dr. Koganti has really been performing this role since she joined the department, and is integral to the process of rating the applicants to the program, which grew to over 150 this year, 50 of whom we interviewed."
"I am incredibly proud to have graduated from this fellowship and am thrilled that I can continue to be a part of the program," says Dr. Koganti.
