After leading the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for 16 years and growing and enhancing the program in the process, Steven Roser, DMD, MD, will transition to the role of program director of the OMFS residency, effective October 1, 2020. He will also assume the role of chief of the OMFS service at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Roser will continue serving as associate director of the section of dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, remain a physician leader for the Emory Global Perioperative Health group, and retain his position as chair of the Global Health Committee for the Department of Surgery's Board of Advisors.
In addition to these leadership roles, Dr. Roser chairs and is program liaison of the Advisory Council for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the American College of Surgeons, and chairs the Committee on Global Surgery of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Gary Bouloux, DDS, MD, MDSc, will serve as interim chief of the division, and will be appointed to chief of OMFS at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Dr. Bouloux joined Emory in 2006 and has served in several leadership roles, including residency program director, John D. Allen and Family Professor of Surgery, and director of research for OMFS, a position he will continue.
He is nationally recognized for his management and treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders and introduced this service to Emory. Dr. Bouloux is president-elect of the American Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons, and chair of the Special Committee for Temporomandibular Joint Care of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
