Katherine Fay receives Outstanding MIS Resident Award
MAY 2020
The Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons (SLS) has selected PGY-3 resident Katherine Fay, MD, to receive its 2020 Outstanding MIS Resident Award, which will allow her free membership in the organization.
One of the components of the SLS mission is to provide educational opportunities for residents and fellows who are interested in pursuing a career in minimally invasive surgery and/or surgical simulation.
Dr. Fay received her MD degree at Emory in 2013, after which she joined the residency. In 2017, she completed a research sabbatical under the mentorship of sepsis and shock expert Craig Coopersmith, MD, director of the Emory Critical Care Center and vice-chair of research for Emory Surgery. During her sabbatical, Dr. Fay participated in studies that investigated aspects of the immunological host response in sepsis.
From 2017-2019, Dr. Fay was an epidemic intelligence officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Respiratory Diseases Branch, and worked with local and international partners developing vaccination policies and responding to disease outbreaks.
