Jahnavi Srinivasan wins Philip Wolfson Outstanding Teacher Award
FEBRUARY 2020
Emory general and GI surgeon Jahnavi Srinivasan, MD, who will succeed Keith Delman, MD, as program director of the Emory general surgery residency effective June 23, 2020, has been named to receive the Association of Surgical Education's Philip J. Wolfson Outstanding Teacher Award.
This honor recognizes Dr. Srinivasan's commitment to teaching, innovative approach to education, enthusiasm and stimulation of interest, ability to provide feedback and effective evaluation, role modeling of professional characteristics, and accessibility.
Dr. Srinivasan is the second faculty member to be honored with the Wolfson Award. Barbara Pettitt, MD, director of medical student education for Emory Surgery, received the award in 2009.
Dr. Srinivasan has served as one of Emory Surgery's associate program directors since 2014, chaired the Resident Education Committee since 2013, and directed the department's Surgical Simulation and Elective Programs since 2011. She is the recipient of a number of teaching awards, both departmental and institutional, and has been a key leader in the success and growth of the residency, particularly in developing and standardizing the cadaver dissection curriculum for all PGY levels.
Dr. Srinivasan has a passion for global surgery, most defined by her service as a leader and mentor on the Emory Haiti Alliance's month-long surgical trips to Haiti since 2010, and has presented her work in video evaluation and cadaveric simulation at several national educational meetings.
