Emory Surgery places 6th in 2019 NIH funding rankings
FEBRUARY 2020
According to ranking tables of annual NIH funding posted by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR), the Emory Department of Surgery placed sixth for all departments of surgery nationwide in total research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in FY2019, with faculty in the department receiving over $13.7M in grants. This latest ranking displays a remarkable climb, especially considering the department's 12th position in FY2014.
"This new ranking is a testament to the remarkable breadth of research performed in Emory Surgery," says Dr. Coopersmith, vice chair of research for the department. "We have international leaders in basic research, in health services research, in clinical trials, and in predictive analytics, and together we are paving the way for a brighter future for our patients tomorrow."
BRIMR has been publishing ranking tables online of annual NIH funding since 2006, and the data it posts is calculated from the NIH's Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool (RePORT).
