ACGME Selects Keith Delman for Courage to Teach Award

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has honored Keith Delman, MD, associate chair of faculty and clinical affairs and program director of the general surgery residency program, with the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award. This award is given to those program directors who find innovative ways to teach residents and provide quality health care while remaining connected to the initial impulse to care for others. Awardees will be honored during the ACGME Annual Educational Conference in San Diego, February 27-29, 2020.
Dr. Delman's achievements as an educator include assisting in the establishment of the Emory Surgery Global Surgery Program in 2011, one of the first American Board of Surgery-approved international surgical training experiences; spearheading the 2012 renovation of the Department of Surgery's surgical education offices in Emory University Hospital to include such advanced teaching technologies as a dedicated 24 hour simulation lab; and transitioning the Carlos and Davis Center for Surgical Anatomy and Technique from its original print media platform to a digital, electronic format to disseminate educational materials related to developing knowledge of surgical anatomy.
Dr. Delman co-chairs the Melanoma Working Group/Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Board of the Winship Cancer Institute, leading the multidisciplinary care of nearly half of all patients diagnosed with melanoma in the state of Georgia each year. Dr. Delman's practice also focuses on treating complex cutaneous oncology, including sarcoma, adnexal tumors of the skin, and merkel cell carcinoma.
