The American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Advances in Radiation Oncology journal released its list of the top-cited and most-read articles of the decade both of which were headed by Winship Cancer Institute radiation oncologist Benjamin W. Fischer-Valuck, MD, for his article "Two-and-a-half-year clinical experience with the world's first magnetic resonance image guided radiation therapy system." The article, released in 2017 when Fischer-Valuck was at Washington University, has captured over 150 readers, is cited nearly 50 times to date, and has been shared over 60 times on social media.
Executive Vice Chair of the Winship Department of Radiation Oncology and senior author of this article, Jeffrey D. Bradley, MD, FACR, FASTRO, treated most of the lung cancer patients on the study including those with adrenal metastases using adaptive SBRT while at Washington University. He also contributed to the analysis of the paper.
"I was thrilled to see that our paper was the 'most cited' and 'most read' article in ASTRO's Advances in Radiation Oncology journal over the last decade!" says Fischer-Valuck, "It is great that this work is reaching a broad audience and I'm hopeful that lessons learned through our experience described in the paper translate into better care for our cancer patients."
