Congratulations to the EmoRayders, the official Emory Department of Radiation Oncology Winship Win the Fight 5K team, for raising over $40,000 to support cancer research at Winship Cancer Institute.
Nearly 175 Winship radiation oncology faculty, staff, family members, patients, and caregivers contributed to the philanthropic effort, exceeding the team's fundraising goal of $25,000.
"The EmoRayders' donation is a huge win for Winship and our radiation oncology patients," says Winship Executive Director and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Walter J. Curran Jr., MD.
The EmoRayders have come a long way from when the team first began in 2011, raising just over $6,800. Last year, the team raised more than $20,000 and was the sixth top fundraising team.
EmoRayders' team captain and two-time race participant Sandra Marusa says, "There is nothing more rewarding than watching my colleagues get excited for race day each year."
Winship Director of Radiation Therapy Maxine Washington and Patient Care Coordinator Deborah Mathis served as co-captains for the team and assisted Marusa with race day preparations and fundraising. Radiation Therapist Kamal Patel designed the 2019 EmoRayders Team T-Shirt.
Donations for the 9th Annual Winship Win the Fight 5K will be accepted until November 29.
