Paul received his MD and PhD from the Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore after receiving his Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of California, Irvine. His PhD work involved understanding the role of neural stem cells in brain development with a specific focus on the effect of genetic changes associated with autism in mouse embryos. After medical school, he spent a year at the National Institute of Mental Health studying gene transcription in postmortem brain samples from patients with schizophrenia. His clinical and research interests involve working with individuals with autism and other developmental disorders and to understand genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that affect these phenotypes. He has been published in high profile scientific journals, including Biological Psychiatry and Nature Communications. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with daughter.
