Can Autism Severity be Assessed just as well through Telehealth?
DSM-5-TR Severity Levels for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Agreement Between Clinicians Using Telehealth and In-Person Assessment Procedures
Background: Clinicians showed high agreement when diagnosing autism in toddlers, but they were much less consistent when assigning severity levels using the DSM-5-TR. In a study of 49 toddlers, agreement between Telehealth and in-person assessments was fair for social communication and interaction, and slight for restricted and repetitive behaviors.
Why it matters: More consistent severity ratings could help ensure that treatment plans and support recommendations better reflect each child’s needs.
